West Chester Summer Stage was founded 20 years ago by sisters Lisa Pinto Trucksess and Ann Pinto McCarney as a simple endeavor to bring theater arts to the Chester County area. Year after year, kids learn just what they are capable of when performing in a full-scale musical after just 3 weeks of rehearsal. During this time they learn the craft of musical theater from our staff of seasoned theater professionals and teachers. In addition – they learn how to work as a team to “get the show on its feet.”

But the magic doesn’t just belong to the kids - thousands of parents, grandparents, family and friends have watched these kids make magic happen right before their eyes. We have all been a part of their amazing journey.

Our goal is to make those few short weeks your child’s most memorable activity of the summer. We are so proud when former performers come back each year to see the latest production and reminisce about their experiences as well. It has turned into one big extended family experience for everyone.

We are committed to providing your children with the most professional and exciting experience a summer theater program can accomplish - after all, we're parents too!

Ann Pinto McCarney – Artistic Director & Producer

Ann has performed professionally for over 30 years, appearing locally at the Walnut Street Theatre, Arden Theatre, and the Society Hill Playhouse among others. She has also written, produced and performed in her own cabaret acts in the Philadelphia area. In addition to her work in Philadelphia, Ann performed in a studio workshop for a new children's musical in NYC for Stephen Schwartz. Ann is an active member of Actors Equity Association, the professional actors union.

Ann is surrounded and supported by a caring and attentive staff of counselors, musical directors, choreographers and stage managers. In fact – many of our staff are former Summer Stagers!

Your show gave my son the opportunity to conquer his fears, the confidence he gained is priceless”
